Dubai Opera will showcase the first Emirati opera in October 2020.  The show, which was commissioned by Expo 2020 Dubai, is called “Al Wasl” and will be performed in both Arabic and English.  “Al Wasl” is an Arabic word, meaning “the connection”, and the performance is aimed at linking the Bedouin roots of this great nation to the modern country it is today.

This production will be in collaboration with the Welsh National Opera and will include over 100 Emirati and global artists and musicians.  In charge of music will be Mohammed Fairouz, whose works include Sumeida’s Song, The New Prince and Bhutto.  Dialogue will be scripted by Maha Gargash, whose local heritage and culture will be felt throughout.
